A team of officers in Arunachal, led by deputy commissioner of Tawang district Sang Phuntsok, made a nine hours long journey, on foot and vehicle, to administer COVID-19 vaccine to 16 residents from Luguthang village in the state, who are yak herders.

According to reports, the grazers or Brokpas had been left out during the special vaccination drive organised on May 21 at Domtsang village, situated in between Thingbu and Luguthang in the district.

The deputy commissioner and the Zila Parishad Chairperson(ZPC) of Tawang, Leki Gombu personally monitored the vaccination camp at Domtsang, official sources said.

Acknowledging the team, Arunachal chief minister Pema Khandu tweeted, "Reaching the unreached - Bringing COVID vaccines to remote communities."

The officers started the journey at 7.15 am on July 12 and reached the village at 4.30 pm after crossing Nyukteng peak, Nahchhot peak, and the Luguthang river.

The villagers received a jab of the COVID vaccine on Tuesday morning.

The DC also convened a meeting with the villagers to review the developmental activities being taken up in the village.

The first-ever visit of the DC and ZPC of the district was highly appreciated by the residents of the village.
