SHILLONG:

Meghalaya skipper Kevin Christopher’s well-executed century went in vain, as Meghalaya lost to Manipur by 125 runs in their Plate Group match of the U-19 Cooch Behar Trophy in Bhubaneshwar December 2.

Resuming on 52 on the fourth and final day of the match, with Meghalaya on 123/6, Christopher did all that he could to get the team close to the target of 312 for victory.

At the other end, it was Manish Sharma, who patiently defended his wicket for 40 deliveries while Christopher struck a total of 13 fours and three sixes in his innings of 102 off 137 deliveries.

Sharma's resistance, however, was finally broken and, soon after, Meghalaya suffered a blow after PM Santhosh, who made a brilliant 71 in the first innings, was retire hurt.

In the end, Meghalaya finished well short of the target set by Manipur, with Christopher the last man out as his team only managed 186/9.

Meghalaya will now get a few days rest before taking on Sikkim, on December 6.
