Shillong, December 20, 2017: Meghalaya bowlers have done the state extremely proud on the first day of their U-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy match against Bihar with Swastic Chettri spinning his way to five wickets as the visitors declared on 299/9.

Bihar are a challenging side, having already hit an incredible 1,000 runs in a single innings in one of their earlier matches. After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Bihar did well in the morning to put on 121 runs for the first wicket before Rajesh was run out by Sunvish Cherak on 49. His opening partner Arnav Kishor who fell soon after (62), caught off the bowling of Cherak, who is playing his first game in the series.

The visitors were thereafter frustrated in their attempts to build big partnerships, with all the wickets falling to spinners. Apart from the openers only Binny (45) got close to a half-century before he became Chettri's first victim of the day.

The off-spinner would eventually end with figures of 5-62 and Cherak claimed 2-48. Gavineal Marpna also bagged one wicket, ending the day with 1-35.

Bihar chose to declare towards the end of the day in order to have a go at Meghalaya's batsmen for a couple of overs and they had a little success in dismissing Chettri and the hosts will resume tomorrow on 2/1, trailing by 297 runs.
