Sikkim: 36th All India Governor’s Gold Cup concluded

GANGTOK: The 36th All India Governor's Gold Cup concluded yesterday with the gigantic team Mohammedan Sporting Club, Kolkata emerging as the champions.

The final match was played between the Mohammedan Sporting Club, Kolkata and the Jhapa XI where the former scored one goal against the latter in an exciting match held at Palzor stadium.

The tournament was organized by the Sikkim Football Association (SFA) from 16th October with 12 teams from different parts of the country.

Manvir Singh scored the goal in the 15th minute and gave the lead to MD Sporting.

In the last minutes of the first half Karna Limboo missed the penaltyshot which let down the hopes of Jhapa XI as well as the crowd in the stadium.Local boy Mobin Rai played full time from MD Sporting and expressed his happiness towards the victory saying, 'I am extremely happy to win the Champions title. This is a proud moment for me. I was extremely touched to see the overwhelming support from my people and I would like to thank them all for supporting me and my team'.

Manner Singh of MD Sporting became the Man of the Match and he also thanked the public for the immense support and expressed his satisfaction for playing in Sikkim for the first time.

The Chief Guest of the event, Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Ugen T Gyatso, gave away the cash prize and trophies to both the winner and runners up team.

Pravesh Katuwal Captain Jhapa XI was awarded the man of the tournament.
