SEMC: A boulevard for Motorsports’ lovers

SHILLONG: With the advent of time, Meghalaya has witnessed a gradual growth in many spheres, the credit of which goes to the contributions made by the various stakeholders.

Off late, the sports scenario has also seen a tremendous climb, with the sports persons of the state excelling in various forms of it, the most successful being football amongst others.

However, with the advent of development and opportunities available through the contributions of individuals, boulevard to other less thought and mostly seen on television sporting activity has also seen a surge.

Motorsport is one such sport that has managed to shift gears through the rough social terrains, and steer through the tight financial corners to reach its destination of existence in the State's atlas of sports.

To further promote motorsports as a professional sport in the state, a group of motorsports' enthusiasts came up with brilliant idea of getting other interested youth involved in this upcoming sport. The firm by which these individuals operate — CR Projects has already geared up to organise the first Motorsports Festival – Shillong Endurance Motorsports Challenge (SEMC) 2016 from 14-17 September at Lum Kur Kharkongor, Umphyrnai Lad Smit.

According to the proprietor of CR Projects, Chris Rani, the festival will have skill based competitions for motor vehicles under the categories of 4X4 Off-roading, Autocross, Motorcross, Royal Enfield, Non Gear Scooters and Bicycle downhill trail.

Rani informed that the participants will be tested on their skills sets, endurance, knowledge and team work as they compete for trophies and cash prizes.

"This event is positioned as an annual exclusive sporting festival that will include entertainment for spectators in the form of Live Music, DJs, food and beverages stalls as well as a Game Zone for children," he said.

It was informed that participants from all the north eastern states as well as from other parts of the country are invited to take part in the event. The winner will receive a trophies and a cash prize of Rs 8 lakh.
