Royal Wahingdoh Women’s Football Team to take part in first Indian Women’s League prelim round

SHILLONG: Adding another feather to its cap the Royal Wahingdoh women's football team, the first professional female football team in the North East, will take part in the Indian Women's League- Preliminary Round to be held in Cuttack, Odisha from October 17-26.

The RWFC women's side is in Group I with Alakhpura FC (Haryana), Rising Student FC (Odisha), Quartz FC (Kerala), Bodyline FC (WIFA). The Royals will play their first match against Bodyline FC on October 19.

The team will be led by coach Iaikyntiew Marbaniang.

On the eve of their departure to Odisha coach Marbaniang expressed confidence of a good show at the first ever Indian Women's League preliminary round.

"It's a big opportunity for the girls who will get a lot of exposure from the tourney. It is crucial for the development of women's football in the region… I am sure irrespective of the outcome, the girls will come back with loads of experience at the end of the event," she added.

The 18-member women's side will play their last preliminary round match against Quartz FC on October 25.
