Olympics: Athletes from Manipur to be awarded crores on winning

IMPHAL: The Manipur government has decided to give incentives for the six athletes from the state who are representing India at the Rio Olympics.If they win gold, the government will award them Rs.2 crores, if they clinch silver—Rs.1.5 crores and Rs.1 crore for bronze.

This is a great move by the government to help promote sports at the top level. The athletes will however get Rs.25 lakhs irrespective of the outcome in the Olympic Games. The six athletes from the state are Bombayla Devi, Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, Sushila Chanu, Anuradha Thokchom, Kothajit Singh and Chinglensana Singh.
