North East Youth League: Royals beat Rangdajied 2-1

SHILLONG: Royal Wahingdoh FC beat Rangdajied United 2-1 in a crucial North East Zone U-16 Youth League encounter at Mawlai artificial turf here on Sunday afternoon.

The Royals were down by a goal I the first half but soon regrouped to equalize and went on to take full three points with a decisive shot at the nets during the fag end of the tie.

While Rakesh and Phrangki Buam netted in the 18th and 86thminutes respectively for the Royals, Meban Warjri scored the lone goal for Rangdajied in the 15th minute.

It was a tough contest in the fast-paced Madan Heh ground and despite conceding early, the Royals were ahead throughout as far as ball possession was concerned. On a high after beating Shillong Lajong, Rangdajied found the back of the nets through Meban in the 15th minute thus threatening to sweep full three yet again. However, the Royals' response was prompt and barely three minutes later Rakesh equalized after he converted of a perfect cross from Rheadolf.

Crossing over, Rangdajied looked more threatening in the initial stages and required a couple of fine saves from the RWFC custodian to keep them at bay.

However, an 84thn minute strike at the back of the nets by Phrangki ensured that there was little time for RUFC to stage a comeback.

In the end the Royals emerged victorious by a 2-1 margin. The Royals have thus drew one game, lost one and won one in the youth tournament so far.
