National Games is not just an event, it is an opportunity: Meghalaya CM

As Meghalaya prepares to host the National Games 2022, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Monday said that the mega sporting event is not just an event but also an opportunity for the state to grow in many aspects.

Conrad highlighted the advantages that comes along with hosting the National Games. He said that it is not just about sports but also about tourism and a host of allied sectors.

Meghalaya is set to host the 39th National Games in the state in 2022. The mega sports event will coincide with the 50th year of Meghalaya's statehood.


"National games is not an event it is an opportunity. It is not just about sport it is about tourism, water supply, electricity, urban, railways, airport. It is about different allied sectors involved in it so you need to really see the entire spectrums of things," said Conrad while speaking to newsmen after the second day of the state Assembly Budget session.

He further said, "When people come in for the event, it is not just for the event it's also for tourism. It is about ensuring that de-congestion takes place in our cities. The roads are better the cities are cleaner. It is a massive event and it is all connected to almost every other sector in the state".

Talking about his and his cabinet colleagues meeting with  Prime Minister, Conrad said," We mentioned that to the Prime Minister and he assured us that he will do whatever possible form his side, however these are only genuine assurances we have to go into specifics and I will only be able to tell more   when get specifics and details".
