Meghalaya: Shillong Golf Club wins the 101 Area Golf Championship 2017

SHILLONG, May 29: The Shillong Golf Club on Sunday carried home the 101 Area Golf Championship trophy beating other clubs like Vajra Golf Club, Laitkor Golf Club, and Rhino Golf Club.

The team event which was held at Shillong Golf Club, which is one of the oldest Golf Courses in the country with its vintage dating back to 1898.

The initiative was taken by Lieutenant General DS Ahuja, General Officer Commanding, 101 Area to bring all golfers of Shillong together on a common platform with the aim of generating more interaction amongst the golfing fraternity and a step towards conduct of more such tournaments.

The occasion was attended by distinguished members of Shillong including AOC-in-C, Eastern Air Command, Director General of Assam Rifles, Mr A.H. Scott Lyngdoh and Board members of Shillong Golf Club.

The Patron-in-Chief of Rhino Golf Club assured that this event shall be a recurring event on an yearly basis and expressed his desire for other Clubs to follow the same to generate greater interaction and bonhomie amongst the armed forces and the golfers of Shillong.

It is pertinent to note that the North Eastern Region of the country has the highest density of Golf Courses in the country and a large number of young players are emerging who have the potential to make it big in the international arena and bring glory to the nation.
