Meghalaya hopes to host National Games 2022

SHILLONG: Meghalaya hopes to host the National Games 2022 and Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has started the process of getting the bid by handing over documents to the Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA). The CM also handed over a cheque of Rs 50 lakh on behalf of the state government and letters of support to the MSOA for placing the bid at a brief function held in Shillong.

Till date only two Northeastern states have hosted the games, Manipur in 1999 and Assam in 2007. The state will celebrate 50 years of it attaining statehood in 2022 so it would be befitting for the state to host the games. The recently concluded South Asian Games was co-hosted by Guwahati and Shillong which was a huge success, so there is no doubt that Meghalaya will be able to take on the pressure and responsibility of hosting the national games.

President of the MSOA, John Kharshiing, in a power point presentation highlighted the way forward for the bidding process and the need for sports policy for hosting the Games.
