Meghalaya Home Guards jawan wins gold in National Jeet-Kune-Do Championship in Kolkata

SHILLONG, Sept 12, 2017: A bandsman from the Meghalaya Home Guards, Ferdinand Suchiang made the department proud by winning a Gold Medal in the recently concluded National Jeet Kune Do Championship which was held from 9-10 September at Indoor Stadium, Kolkata, West Bengal.

Suchiang who won a Gold in the 55 kg full contact jeet kune do was a part of the Jeet Kune Do contingent from Meghalaya whose medal tally in the Championship consists of 10 gold and 7 silver medals securing the 2nd Runners Up position for the State.

Suchiang who is a member of the pipe band of the Central Training Institute (CTI) of Home Guards and Civil Defence at Mawdiangdiang, is an accomplished martial arts athlete who has won several state, regional and national level tournaments. He is also a qualified coach of Kickboxing.

From this National Championship, Suchiang is now setting his sights on the upcoming International Jeet Kune Do Championship at Hong Kong which will be held from 30th September to 1st October 2017.

Suchiang is one amongst two athletes to be selected for this International Tournament from Meghalaya. Another Meghalaya athlete who will take part in the event is Thomas Rongthaluh.

Suchiang will be competing in the 57 kg Light Contact category, while Rongthaluh will be competiting in the 54 kg Form Wingchun category.
