ISL: NEUFC to face Kerala Blasters in opening match at Guwahati

The Indian Super League is about to begin with the dates announced. The much awaited sporting event will begin on October 1 with the opening ceremony to take place in the Northeastern city of Guwahati which will also see the host team take on Kerala Blasters. The final is scheduled to take place on December 18 with the venue yet to be decided.

NEUFC has brought in reinforcements in not just new players but also Portugese coach Nelo Vingada. They have brought in 10 foreign players (10 being the capped number of foreign players in a team). NEUFC will hope to put in a better showing this season and the likes of renowned Indian goalkeeper and Arjuna award recipient Subrata Paul joining the Northeastern side will surely bolster the team strength. The team also has Indian international forward Sumeet Passi and keeping with their previous seasons and highlighting footballers from the region, the club has signed highly rated youngsters Jerry Mawihmingthanga and Lallianzuala Chhangte. Katsumi Yusa, the Japanese player who is also an integral part I-League powerhouse Mohun Bagan has also signed for the Highlanders for the upcoming ISL season.

The season will surely be an interesting an exciting one as every season in the ISL only seems to get better. With this third edition, NEUFC fans will hope that their team will prove the dark horse in the competition.
