SHILLONG:

Uruguayan footballer and NorthEast United FC midfielder Federico Gallego is out of the ISL Season 2021-22 due to a knee injury. The club confirmed this development through a post on their Twitter handle on December 3.

Gallego was on the receiving end of a tackle with his knee probing the turf. The midfielder was taken off the field shortly following what appeared to be a catastrophic injury.

Gallego had a similar fate in the Indian Super League 2019-20 season, missing the first half of ISL before returning to make another 10 outings.

The Uruguayan footballer has played a key role in the clubs' achievement in reaching the semi-finals two times in the previous three seasons.

Gallego, who was retained for the 2021-22 season, was a significant contributor to the Highlanders' journey to the ISL semi-finals. Their aspirations have been crushed, though, due to the injury.
