FOOTBALL | Guwahati City FC’s summer camp comes to an end; event sees participation of 150 lads

GUWAHATI, July 26, 2017: As many as 150 aspiring footballers from different parts of the country took part in the 10-day summer camp organized by Guwahati City FC in association with Shillong Lajong FC, which came to an end at Gauhati University playground on Tuesday.

A friendly match was also organized on the closing day to mark the occasion between popular musician Zubeen Garg XI and Guwahati City FC XI. On the final day, the trainees who successfully completed the camp were provided certificates. "We are grateful to the aspiring football players who took part in the camp besides the coaches from Shillong Lajong FC and of course the local coaches who extended their helping hand," said Guwahati City FC director Kaustav Chakrabarty.

The coaches who attended the camp included Shillong Lajong's Birendra Thapa, Wirendar Iawram, Bobby Nongbet and Alison Kharsyntiew. Besides, Kamlakanta Singh Loitongbam, Ritupan Boro and Bishal Pradhan also attended the camp. The Guwahati City FC also expressed its gratitude to Larsing Ming Sawyan, the owner of Shillong Lajong FC who is also the vice president of All India Football Federation (AIFF).

Narrating his experience, Eighteen year old Farhan who came all the way from Chhattisgarh to learn the magic of football. "I have always been playing football though my neighbours are more into cricket and basketball. I got to learn new things here under the guidance of experienced coaches," Farhan said after attending the camp.

There were three categories- under 12, under 16 and under 22 age groups in the camp. All the BPL and players from orphanage homes have been provided free of cost training and other facilities. After the camp two players who participated here have been invited to the trials for the Assam team in sub-junior category.

Birendra Thapa who is currently the senior manager of Shillong Lajong said that most of the boys in the camp are very energetic. "It's a great thing the Guwahati City FC has started by gathering the boys together. I will be happiest if some of the boys take advantage of the camp and learn new things to improve their football talents. I also hope that the Guwahati City FC continues their work in different parts of the state," said Thapa.
