Football: Baichung Bhutia concerned over lack of players from Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland

ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Pradesh Football Association has been asked to pull up its socks and strengthen the state's league system so as to ensure that young players from the state get the best chances of being unearthed.

Baichung Bhutia met with the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs and the Arunachal Pradesh Football Association to discuss the future of football in the state.

Baichung was in Arunachal for the Young Leaders Connect Conclave and stressed on the importance of a league that was based on districts which would help identify potential players. Other Northeastern states have pumped in a lot of money in order to develop players in their respective states, and hopes that the Arunachal government would also do the same.

The Northeast has the most potential in terms of football with many players from Meghalaya, Mizoram and Manipur playing in the I-League and the ISL. Baichung also added that it is concerning that Arunachal and Nagaland have very few players on a national level and hopes that there would be more done to promote the development of players in the states.
