Assam: Shiva Thapa thrashes opponent in the First Elite boxing championships

GUWAHATI: The Elite Boxing Championships has begun in Guwahati with Olympian Shiva Thapa got off to a great start but thrashing boxer from Arunachal Pradesh Gumin Gara 5-0.

The National Boxing Championship is the first of its kind in the Northeast region and boxers from all over the country are taking part in the Championships.

Shiva Thapa has not participated in any tournaments since the Rio Olympics and his huge following in his home state of Assam are all behind him cheering him on.

The cash prize for each category in the tournament is Rs.4 lakhs.

Another winner from the first day- Ghanshyam from Arunachal Pradesh beat Ashim Dey.

Boxing is gaining a fan following in the Northeast with plans of more boxing schools to be set up in the region under the Boxing Federation of India.
