Arunachal Pradesh: Laa Tukum wins Gold at All India Sub-Junior ranking; Ex-CM extends greetings via Twitter!

ITANAGAR: Laa Tukum of Arunachal Pradesh defeated Bidyasagar Salam of Manipur by 21-17 and 21-13 in straight sets to clinch the Gold Under-15 boys' single event in the All India Sub-Junior badminton Ranking Tournament-2016 played at Karnail Singh Badminton Stadium New Delhi on Sunday.

Arunachal Pradesh Ex-Chief Minister Nabam Tuki extended his best wishes to the young achiever via his Twitter handle- "Congratulations to Laa Tukum on winning Gold at All India Sub-Junior badminton Ranking Tournament-2016".

Earlier, Tukum defeated Adhee Gupta of Maharashtra by 21-19, 21-14, Sidhanth Gupta of Tamil Nadu by 21-11, 10-21, 21-13, Ishaan Bhatnagar of Chitistghar by 11-21, 21-16, 21-19, Gautam Walia of Hariyana by 21-16, 21-16, Siddhartha Mishra of Utter Pradesh by 21-19, 21`-16 and in the final with Bidyasagar Salam of Manipur by 21-17 and 21-13. Tukum is currently in India's ranking no. 5 in the boys' single under-15 age group.

Meanwhile, the Arunachal Badminton team comprising of 15 players will be participating in the North East Zonal Inter State Badminton Championship-2016 to be held at Shillong, Meghalaya from October 25 to 28 next. The team of eight boys and seven girls will be accompanied by three officials.

"State rank no. 1 Laa Talar, who is also the three time consecutive winner of the region in the individual men's single event, will miss the forthcoming Zonal championship. It is a setback for the state team," said secretary Arunachal State Badminton Association Bamang Tago in a release. Laa Talar will be undergoing coaching at Denmark.
