IMPHAL: Thokchom Anuradha Devi is a 26-year-old hockey player from Manipur who have overcome odds to make it on to the national hockey team of the country. The athlete from Manipur is not the only one from her state to do so as the team will be led by none other than Sushila Chanu who will captain the side.

Anuradha Devi has a heart wrenching tale and her struggles to get to where she is remarkable. Born to parents who had to separate so that her father could find work in the city as a rickshaw puller, the poverty stricken family had to work very hard for every single thing. She later went to live with her grandparents where she played football in Thoubal village. She however started taking up hockey and took it up very seriously.

In a sign of how far she's come and how hard work and determination pays off, she will represent India as part of the team that will take part in the Rio Olympics this summer.
