Centre unhappy over Meghalaya’s government inability to utilise central funds

SHILLONG: Union Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda on Tuesday expressed unhappiness over the inability of the Meghalaya Government to utilize Central funds. He said this during a meeting of the Parliamentary consultative committee on health issues at NEIGRIHMS.

Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Nadda asked the North Eastern states including Meghalaya to increase its capacity of utilization of funds while further stating that the NE states would have   to develop capacity building support  for utilization of funds. "The Ministry  will extend its support to the states on capacity building," he added.

He further said that the meeting of the committee has decided to involve public representatives for cooperation of the public in varied issues of health to improve the parameters of health sector in the North East region at a faster pace.

Stating that the Central Government is committed for the development of health facilities in the region, he said that the Central Government would continue to extend its support to the North Eastern states as far as health sector is concerned.

The Parliamentary consultative   committee which last here for two hours discussed and reviewed several issues and health situation of the region.

The meeting was attended by   13  parliamentarians of  both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha  besides the officials of the state health department and NEIGRIHMS.

Earlier, the  committee also visited Pomlum PHC and took stock of the facilities at the health centre.

It may be noted that the union minister who flown in from Guwahati had to return due to bad weather condition and had to instead come to Shillong by road.
