GUWAHATI | SEPT 08, 2020:

A joint operation by the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB), police and forest officials under Baksa and Mushalpur division led to the recovery of two elephant tusks and a deer antler with a skull, from a house at Koraibari in western Assam's Baksa district on Monday.

According to WCCB sources, they apprehended three persons. A handmade gun, ammunition and crackers were seized from their possession.

Sources said a young elephant was killed at Batabari reserve forest last month and that poachers had cut off its tusks. WCCB officials reportedly followed up the case and gathered information about the tusks.

The efforts paid off as both the tusks of the elephant were recovered, and they also traced the weapon which was used to kill the elephant.

However, a detailed report from the forensic department is awaited.
