Scholarship test for North East students

NORTHEAST | April 28, 2018: Chandigarh University will conduct a scholarship and aptitude test from May 1 to June 30, and offer 800 scholarships to successful candidates, with 120 reserved for students from the Northeast.

Around 1,500 students from the region study at the university, of whom 890 are from Assam.

"The students of the Northeast are brilliant but economic problems lead to a high dropout rate. While choosing a career, students emulate their friends, listen to their parents or follow their elder siblings. The career guidance facilities provided by us at the regional office and online will help students choose the right career. Students are also not aware of alternate courses which will help them realise their career goal without formal degrees," head of journalism department, professor Prabhdeep Singh, said here on Friday.

A web portal for career guidance was launched on Friday while a centre for students from the region was announced. A psychometric test, available online and offline, will generate a career advisory report, university officials said.

"The technology and information-savvy student does not refrain from selecting an emerging field rather than choosing a contemporary one. As a result, universities have to be prepared with rich industry-academia interface, offer skill-based education that goes beyond the scope of just churning out graduates and post-graduates as today's youth want to take up skill-oriented education which can lead to employment or entrepreneurship," Singh said.

Candidates have to register for the entrance test online by paying Rs 800. They can select any slot on Saturdays and Sundays between May 1 and June 30. Registrations opened on Friday.
