SHILLONG | SEPT 16, 2020:

The North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Joint Action Committee (JAC) on Wednesday, alleged that the inefficiency of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. S.K. Srivastava, forced the university to surrender several crores of rupees to the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Speaking to newsmen during the second protest organised by the JAC, a faculty of the university, Prof. Xavier Mao stated that the vice-chancellor for his incompetency had surrendered Rs 44 crore to the UGC as he could not utilise the funds which were sanctioned to the university.

"NEHU has lost a total amount of Rs 66 crore because of the lack of efficiency of the present VC," Prof. Mao who is a member of the JAC said.

Informing that the agenda is still the same, as they would like his immediate removal as the VC of NEHU.

He further stated that as per the ordinance of NEHU, the VC has to give 15 days for convening the meeting of the Academic Council, adding that only three day's notice would be enough in the case of any adjourned meeting or emergency meeting.

Prof. Mao has stated that the present VC is under home quarantine and has served notices only yesterday that the meeting of the academic council will be held on Thursday which violates the NEHU ordinance and also the laid down protocols of the Meghalaya Health Department.
