Meghalaya: NCTE restores B. Ed course in Rongkhon

The National Council for Teachers’ Education (NCTE) has restored the Bachelor of Education (B. Ed) status of the Rongkhon College of Teacher’s Education (CTE) Tura during a review meeting on December 3.

NCTE, a Government of India statutory body, earlier in August, had de-affiliated the CTE – Rongkhon after it failed to answer the show cause notice sent by the NCTE over lack of various facilities.

While the same was restored in a meeting held on November 25-26 this year and to continue its B. Ed courses in the Garo Hills region.

The CTE was also granted recognition for conducting B. Ed courses from the year 1997-98 with an intake of 60 students for a 1-year course.

Between the year 2003-04, an additional intake of 40 students was allowed, bringing the total to 100 for the course of B. Ed in the institute.

In 2015-16, the course duration was changed to two years, subjected to fulfilment of conditions including the enhancement of the additional built-up area, additional infrastructure, funds, additional staff, among other criteria.

The de-affiliation was an enormous setback for Garo Hills, since Don Bosco and CTE are the only two colleges of teacher’s education in the region.

With the latest being the 286th meeting between the members, it was decided that the course will be conducted with only a capacity of 50 students per year and not 100.
