Manipur school with only 6 teachers secures 100 percent pass percentage in HSLC exam

UKHRUL, May 26, 2018: Manipur's Paocham High School secured 100 percent pass percentage in the recently declared HSLC examination results.

Headmaster Ningkhalem Horam said that out of 29 students who appeared the examination, 10 students passed in first division and 19 students in second division.

Paocham High School was established in 1959 and is the only high school available for three villages, Phungcham, Paorei and Varangalai. At present there are only six teachers running the school for classes III to X. On April 19, the classroom roof of classes IX and X were completely blown away by a windstorm and is yet to be repaired.

While congratulating the successful candidates, convenor, SMDC, Paocham High School, Wungnaoyo Horam lauded the dedication and performance of the headmaster and teaching staff. He said that the sanctioned post of the school has witnessed a decrease in number in the past few years.

In 2012, the number of sanctioned post for teaching faculties was 28, in 2015 it was reduced to 19 and at present stands at only 15. Out of 15 sanctioned posts only six teachers are working at the moment including the headmaster (in-charge), he added.

He continued that due to acute shortage of teachers, the villagers have been employing two teachers through monetary contribution by the locals. He also appealed the authority concerned to immediately fill up the vacancies and to repair the damaged classroom.
