CBSE to ease pass mark norms for class X this year

NORTHEAST | March 2, 2018: CBSE- Central Board of Secondary Examination has given a major relief to students of class 10 who will be writing their exam from next week by granting one time relaxation the mandatory criteria of separate pass mark.

In a circular issued to all CBSE-affiliated schools across the country on February 27, the board informed that as a one-time measure for this current batch i.e. the batch of Class X appearing in Board Examination in 2018, may be exempted from the mandatory pass criteria.

For those having 5 main subjects, with 20 marks as internal and 80 marks external assessment, it said "They need to secure overall 33% (both taken together) in the subject to be able to pass that subject."

The Board informed that the decision was taken on in its meeting held on February 16 as a "one-time measure."

Meanwhile, in another circular issued on February 27, the Board for the first time has decided grant additional concessions and facilities for candidates with special needs (CSWN). The circular said that the candidate will be allowed to use a computer upon submission of a certificate issued by a registered medical practioner or qualified psychological consultant citing the grounds for recommending the use of a computer.

"The use of computer shall be limited to only for typing answers, for viewing the questions in the enlarged font size, for listening to the question items," the CBSE order read.

The candidate has to bring his/her own laptop "duly formatted" and will not have any internet connection so as to maintain the sanctity of the examination," it said. The CBSE centre superintendent concerned will examine the case based on merit and obtain an approval from the CBSE headquarters. A print out of the candidate's answers will be printed and submitted by centre superintendent.

The Class 10 and 12 CBSE board exams will begin from March 5, ending April 4 and April 12, respectively.
