Assam | University defers semester examinations due to panchayat polls in state

GUWAHATI | November 14, 2018:

Following a meeting held by the examination department on Monday, the Assam University, Silchar deferred its odd-semester examination due to the upcoming panchayat polls. The examinations for three-year degree courses (TDC) in all 56 colleges affiliated to the university have been rescheduled.

The examinations which were scheduled to begin from November 26, now according to the new schedule, the examinations for honours courses will begin on December 17 and end on December 22. Pass course examinations will be held from January 7 to January 31.

The secretary of the state election department issued a letter after which the decision of rescheduling the examinations was taken.

The Barak Valley TDC Students' Union had also submitted a memorandum to the registrar of Assam University, urging him to reschedule the examinations in view of the rural polls. Monday's meeting, in which principals of different colleges, representatives of Assam College Teachers' Association and Assam University officials were present, was convened following the submission of the memorandum.

Though the state election department had issued the letter earlier, there was no certainty on whether the examinations will be rescheduled, a member of the students' council said. This decision will come as a relief to hundreds of students of the university, the member added.
