Assam |At least 74 students expelled for cheating in HSLC exams

GUWAHATI | February 27, 2019:

At least 74 students were expelled in the on-going class 10 HSLC examination for adopting unfair means in Assam's Hailakandi district.

Inspector of Schools, Rajiv Kumar Jha informed that 74 students were expelled during the examination, 23 students were expelled during Social Science exam, 19 in General Mathematics, 15 in English, 13 in General Science and 4 in Assamese.

He said that around 620 were absentees.

Two invigilators have also been issued show cause for being negligent in performing their duties.

A number of initiatives have been taken by the district administration to curb unfair methods by forming flying squads, engaging supervising officers and enforcing Section 144 Criminal Procedure Code (CRPC) within a 200-metre radius of the examination centres to stop the assembling of five or more persons, Jha said.

The HSLC examinations are taking place in 16 examination centres across the district.

Keerthi Jalli, Deputy Commissioner also visited one of the examination centres in Harkishore High School on February 25 to oversee the conduct of the examination.

Jalli went around the examination halls and motivated the invigilators to remain alert for the tasks at hand. She also instructed the headmistress, Sankari Chakraborty to make sure that the examination is held in a free and fair manner.
