Will Northeast India accept the trend of Eco-sexuality?

 |

People, in their own ways have different manners of justifying their deeds and actions, however sane or insane they may look like. There was a time when there was need to create awareness about the third gender, a person who had an orientation apart from the actual gender that he was born into, and how they finally went on to be classified into the third gender category. But, nothing was insane in that nor was it a difficult task!

Now, however, there is an emerging trend among people who call themselves "Ecosexuals" who believe that having sex with the Earth could save it from extinction in the long run! Pretty weird huh! But yes, they do exist. Need proof? Read the article here- http://www.vice.com/read/ecosexuals-believe-having-sex-with-the-earth-could-save-it?utm_source=dmfb

I happened to read this article a few days ago and was utterly shocked and amazed to know the numerous justifications  a person or a group of people can come up with to prove their madness! As per the mentioned article, we should view the earth like our Lover and not like our Mother as a mother may often forgive us for our mistakes but a lover will break up with us for commiting a mistake! Like duh!! And, as if this was not enough, they even go to the extent of saying that people ought to have sex with the earth and orgasm with trees and under waterfalls if that makes them feel closer to the earth that would, in the long run help them to, in turn, preserve and protect their lover!

And they may be right. Jennifer Reed, a PhD candidate in sociology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, is writing a dissertation on ecosexuality, and says that the number of people who identify as ecosexuals has increased markedly in the past two years. And Google search data confirms that interest in the term has spiked dramatically over the past year. We may look back on 2016 as the year ecosexuality hit the mainstream.

I mean, is Sex not suppossed to be a sacred thing! Imagine what the rise of Ecosexuality would lead to. People making out with trees, over the soil and the mud, under the water falls and the simple justification for all this would be: "We are Ecosexuals and we believe in preserving and loving back the Earth by making Love to it"!!

Ecosexuality, the article says is a term with wide-ranging definitions, which vary depending on who you ask. Amanda Morgan, a faculty member at the UNLV School of Community Health Sciences who is involved in the ecosexual movement, says that ecosexuality could be measured in a sense not unlike the Kinsey Scale: On one end, it encompasses people who try to use sustainable sex products, or who enjoy skinny dipping and naked hiking. On the other are "people who roll around in the dirt having an orgasm covered in potting soil," she said. "There are people who fuck trees, or masturbate under a waterfall."

At a personal level, I am not a closed minded person but Ecosexuality as a concept is just too hard a pill for me to take in. Even we do care about the earth and hence we try to incorporate eco-friendly products, dispose off wastes in a proper manner, reduce, reuse and recycle our wastes but what is the need to have sex with the earth to save it? Is this not a mere lame justification for some sort of insane movement that is gaining momentum just because no one is voicing against it and hence it goes unchecked?

As if this was not enough, the Ecosexuals have even come up with a manifesto of their own, which you can read here- http://sexecology.org/research-writing/ecosex-manifesto/

Ecosexuals express a desire to save the earth from rape, abuse and other forms of destruction, but what I ask is that – Is having sex with a tree not equal to raping them without their consent? What is the point of rolling around orgasming with the soil when you are still dependent on technology that pollutes the environment? In that case, we are to go back to the age of Flinstones and banish all forms of technology! I wonder how the plants, the trees and for that matter, the Earth would react had they been given the ability to speak!

What I infer from this emerging trend is that this new group of people are on a mission to justify their weirdness by linking it to a social cause in a manner that makes no sense to a practical man who believes in doing good, being good and making best use of resources in a sustainable manner. I mean why on earth will I make love to earth when I can still preserve it through other sane ways?

Well, all said and done, I leave it to the readers to judge for themselves the emerging trend of "Ecosexuality" and whether or not this should be allowed to influence the minds of the current generation!
