Villagers in Ukhrul complain of mismanagement in food security act, threaten to move to court

 |

The villagers of Tusem Khullen Village have accused Ningthar Vashum the agent for rice distribution of misusing his position under the National Food Security Act, (NFSA) 2013. They have written to the concerned authorities and the Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul since August 5 last but no action has been taken

The villagers state that Government of India under the NFSA provides rice at the rate of Rs. 3  per KG for the poor and needy people in India. Under this scheme, rice meant for Tusom Khullen Village was issued to an agent Mr Ningthar Vashum of New Tusom for three (3) months – April, May & June 2016.

This rice was issued to the agent Ningthar Vashum for distribution to the deserving villagers but  agent is selling the rice at the rate of Rs. 15 per kg which the villagers refused to pay. They negotiated with the agent to sell them the rice @ Rs 5 per KG (Rs. 3 for rice per KG as per the government rate and Rs. 2 for transportation cost per KG as per prevailing transport rate) which the agent refused. Instead he put a condition before the villagers that Rs. 15 is the final rate so they can take it or leave it.

After that the rice meant for Tusom Khullen was surprisingly sold off in the open market.

A representation to Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul was put through on 5th August 2016 vide RR No. 922 to look into the matter but it fell on deaf ears.

So far no action has been taken. Again on 1st Sept. 2016 a representation was presented personally to DGRO, Ukhrul but this plea too has fallen on deaf ears. So who will look into the grievances of the villagers?

The villagers of Tusem Khullen have appealed to the government authorities to take strict action against the agent, Ningthar Vashum by recovering all the rice for three months mean for Tusom Khullen Village and take action as per law of the land. But this plea too has fallen on deaf ears. It appears that the authorities are colluding with the wrongdoer Ningthar Vashum.

Tusom Khullen Village of Ukhrul have also threatened to move court in this matter.
