Tripura Congress leaders upset at not being consulted by Birajit Sinha on the Simna Bypoll

 |

The Announcement of PCC President that Congress will contest the Simna Tamakari Bypoll has once again highlighted the lack of consensus within the Congress in Tripura.

NC Debbarma the president of IPFT had appealed to all anti left forces not to field candidates as there was a chance of IPFT defeating the Left in the bypoll.

Congress had got a mere 219 votes in the last election while IPFT had given a close fight to the left front .

It is believed that non of the tribal leaders barring a few who are seen close to Birajit Sinha were even consulted.

Working PCC President Pradyot Manikya Debbarma who was also in favour of the alliance with IPFT has been reportedly upset at the latest developments but has refused to speak for the time being.

The Congress which has been weakened by the departure of leaders such as Sudip Roy Barman will need to have a strong showing in the bypass. With Mamata Bannerjee scheduled to arrive in Tripura on the 9th of August it remains to be seen who will be present when the AICC secretary CP Joshi and Bhupen Bora arrive in Tripura on the 1st week of August.

With most leaders who are in the Congress staying away it looks like Birajit Sinha and Gopal Roy will have their hands full in the days to come
