Rahul Gandhi to appear in person at Guwahati court,Is it symbolism or show of substance ?

 |

Rahul Gandhi has been in news lately and for most political observers its less about reviving the party and more to do with judiciary and cases slapped against him.

Be it the National Herald case or the defamation charge by RSS ,Rahul Gandhi's trouble does not seem to go away.

This time around he may rally public support when he appears in person before a court here on September 29 next in connection with a defamation case filed against him on behalf of the RSS.
Kamrup ( metropolitan) chief judicial magistrate (CJM) here had issued summon to Gandhi on August 6 last to appear before the court on September 29 this year.
The RSS filed the case against the Congress leader after he had alleged that the RSS conspired to prevent him from visiting revered vashnavite monastery, Barpeta Satra in Barpeta town of western Assam when he paid visit to the state for the Assam assembly elections.

At that time he made allegation that he was denied entry in the holy site by Rss supporters ,something which the monastery  denied.

Rahul Gandhi may use this opportunity by appearing in person and highlighting how petty and personal the BJP is getting against him say political analyst .After the recent debacle in Arunachal Pradesh and the creation of NEDA ,the congress is looking to consolidate its loosing grip in the Northeast .According to many this maybe a step in this direction to evoke sympathy as well expose 'personal attacks' which Rahul Gandhi feels he is being targeted with.

In a late night meeting it is believed that Rahul Gandhi also met CP Joshi and took stock of  the preparedness of the party to fight the Baithalangshu byelection. The Assembly seat fell vacant after sitting MLA Mon Singh Rongpi resigned.

He wildest likely be accompanied by Ripun Bora and Gaurav Gogoi when he appears in court .
