Assam:Exit polls suggest that Tarun Gogoi on his way out of Power

 |

Tarun Gogoi may have been in power for 15 years but if reports from the latest exit polls are to be believed then he is on his way out and the BJP making its first inroads into the northeast through an elections.

While The BJP-led alliance could bag 79 to 93 seats in the 126-member Assam assembly, three exit polls said. A fourth survey gave the BJP and its two allies – Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland People's Front (BPF) – 57 seats, close to the critical half-way mark.

The India Today-Axis exit poll gave 79-93 seats to the BJP combine, 26-33 to the Congress and 6-10 to the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF).

ABP Group has given BJP Over 80 seats while Todays Chanakya has said that the BJP will get close to 90 seats virtually wiping out the Congress.

Only news nation exit poll has been slightly charitable to the Congress and said that the Party could win upto 47 51 seats .

Tarun Gogoi had taken on the Prime Minister personally on many issues but according to critics the main player who may have damaged the Congress is Himanta Biswa Sarma who was once admittedly the blue eyed boy of the Chief Minister.

The results are out on the 19th of May .
