34 people including minors arrested for involvement in sex racket

AGARTALA: A total of 34 people including minor boys and girls involved in sex racket were sent to judicial custody on Monday morning within less than 24 hours of arrest from three restaurants along with the owners.

The West Agartala police have busted the sex racket after conducting a surprise raid in three restaurants at Advisor Chowmuhani in Agartala on Sunday evening and arrested 18 young ladies and 16 youths. The raid was conducted under the West Superintendent of Police Bijoy Nag and Additional Superintendent of Police Sharmistha Chakraborty.

Acting on a tip-off a police team led by additional SP Sharmishtha Chakraborty had raided the 'Tring', 'Abba' and 'Samba' restaurants and caught sixteen couples in the inner-side chambers . The owners of two restaurants, Madan Debbarma and Debasish Bhattacharya were also arrested but the third owner Shyamal Bhattacharya had fled before being arrested. The police however arrested his wife as an accomplice of her husband in running the racket.The 18 ladies were between the age group of 16 to 25 years old.

All of them were taken to the police station where police interrogated them. Later, they were taken to IGM Hospital for medical examination at late night before producing to the court.

Sources said that a special court was conducted Sunday night for the issue and the hearing continued till Monday early morning.

Later, all of them except two were sent to judicial custody and the other two were sent to Juvenile Home.
