India-China stand-off: 17 more injured Indian troops succumb to injuries; death toll rises to 20

Seventeen more Indian troops, who were critically injured during a violent face-off with the Chinese PLA troops at Galwan Valley in Eastern Ladakh on Monday evening, have succumbed to their injuries, taking the total number of soldiers killed in action to 20.

According to the official statement issued by the Indian Army, 17 Indian troops, who were critically injured in the line of duty at the stand off location and exposed to sub-zero temperatures in the high altitude terrain, have succumbed to their injuries. The first deaths reported was on Monday evening where an Army officer along with two soldiers were martyred in the face-off.

"Indian and Chinese troops have disengaged at the Galwan area where they had earlier clashed on the night of 15/16 June 2020," read the official statement.

It may be mentioned that after a long gap of at least 45 years, a renewed dispute has been witnessed between the two countries in recent weeks.
