HOWRAH:

The Election Commission of India (ECI) suspended a sector officer in West Bengal on Tuesday after he was found at the residence of a Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader with four EVM and VVPAT machines.

According to a senior official, the incident happened in Tulsiberia village under Uluberia Uttar assembly constituency.

The Election Commission stated that the machines have been taken out of service and were not used in Tuesday's elections.

"Severe action shall be taken against all those involved in the incident," read a statement by the ECI.

The villagers spotted a vehicle with an Election Commission sticker outside the house of the TMC leader, the official said.

Meanwhile, BJP candidate Chiran Bera said that the whole incident was part of the TMC's plan to "rig the elections."
