NEW DELHI:

The Union Health Ministry on Saturday observed that the coverage of both doses of the COVID vaccine in the 60-plus category is "unsatisfactory" in the Northeastern states of Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Meghalaya.

Chairing a high-level review meeting in New Delhi today, Union Health Secretary, Rajesh Bhushan underlined the need to earmark doses, days and target the completion of the exercise for beneficiaries in all categories.

Stating that the 60-plus age group is more vulnerable to COVID-19, he said that administering both doses for the elderly is of prime importance. He also stressed the need for states and UTs to quickly saturate the first dose coverage among the 18-plus population category.

The States/UTs have been advised to closely monitor the stock from State Vaccine Stores to Cold Chain Point, check rational distribution and restrict vaccine wastage to below 2 per cent.
