Assembly speakers of NE states to submit memo to PM Modi on racism

The Speakers of Mizoram, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and the Deputy Speaker of Assam attended the virtual meet.

Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh informed that all Assembly Speakers of the eight North-Eastern states have decided to submit a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to address issues of racism against North East Indians.

He informed on Friday while attending a Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Zone III virtual meet held under the chairmanship of the Speaker of Arunachal Pradesh, Pasang Dorjee Sona on a racial statement made by YouTuber Paras Singh against Congress MLA from Arunachal Pradesh, Ninong Ering.

The Speakers of Mizoram, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and the Deputy Speaker of Assam attended the virtual meet.

Lyngdoh said that it is high time that racial discrimination is taken seriously in India before it penetrates into the minds of the younger generation.
