NEW DELHI | JUNE 29, 2020:

At least 23 ferry passengers were killed in Dhaka when the vessel sank after a collision on Monday.

According to officials, the boat was ferrying around 50 passengers when it capsized in the Buriganga river.

"The dead include six women and three children. A few of the passengers could swim ashore to safety, but some are still missing," an official said.

"So far, we have recovered 23 bodies and are looking for those missing," he added.

Ferry accidents occur every year in Bangladesh – a country known for its extensive inland waterways and slack safety standards.
