NEW DELHI | JULY 09, 2020:

Two people were killed and 18 others have been reported missing due to floods in Nepal's Sindhupalchowk district, said police officials on Thursday.

The floods and landslides have also damaged the road connecting the Tatopani-Zhangmu border point between Nepal and China.

On Thursday morning,  the chief district officer of the District Administration Office in Sindhuplachowk, Umesh Kumar Dhakal,  informed that 14 people were missing and three injured persons were reported in Barhabise municipality after a stream swept away 11 houses.

"Four more people were missing and two were injured as two houses were swept away by the floods in Bhotekoshi municipality. The Araniko Highway connecting the capital city Kathmandu with the Nepal-China border point has also been damaged in at least seven locations," Dhakal said.

"This will affect trade with China for some days," he added.

The Tatopani-Zhangmu border point had reopened in March after a two-month closure due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
