Mizoram govt to extend lockdown till May 31

In order contain the spread of coronavirus the Mizoram government has decided to extend the lockdown till May 31.

During a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister Zoramthanga, with different political parties, NGOs, Churches, doctors, association, village and local councils has expressed their opinion for the extension of lockdown till May 31.

These issues include a proposal of extending the ambit of PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana insurance scheme.

In the meeting of various task forces at the civil secretariat in Aizawl yesterday, Chief Secretary Lalnunmawia Chuaungo, who is also the chairman of the Covid-19 state task force group highlighted the issues in view of the further extension of lockdown and adoption of new guidelines.

Officials said some members of the state task force suggested that the volunteers working with locality and village level task forces need to cover under the insurance cover, along with the frontline workers.

Suggestions were also put forward to provide insurance cover to Govt servants, who are deployed to fight the pandemic.

Officials said it was decided that the task force group on insurance will take up these issues soon.

Officials further said that 51 Churches in Aizawl have decided to allow Church premises into quarantine centres to facilitate the returnees from other states.
