Meghalaya: Situation improves in Shillong; Curfew totally lifted

SHILLONG | March 8, 2020:

The East Khasi Hills District Administration has totally lifted the night curfew in the whole curfew bound areas of Shillong and its adjoining areas.

The curfew was imposed in these areas since February 28 – Municipal area, whole of cantonment area, all areas under Mawlai Block including census town, all areas under Mawpat Block including census town, areas under Mylliem Block, Madanrting, Mawblei , Laitkor, Nongkseh, umlyngka, Lawsohtun, Mawdiangdiang, Diengiong, Siejiong, Bara Bazar, Paltan bazar Stand jeep from District Council Point leading to Motphran area and upto YMCA, Iew Mawlong and areas falling there under, entire police bazar bounded by quinted road to Umsohsun Bridge, and from Khyndailad – G.S Road – Boucher Road Junction in Shillong with effect from 5 am of March 8.

It may be mentioned that the curfew was imposed in these areas since February 28 following a clash which erupted at Ichamati under Shella PS between KSU members and some non-locals.

The state government had also suspended internet services in Meghalaya and the ban was only lifted on March 8 morning.
