SHILLONG | DEC 17, 2019:

While lambasting former Chief Minister and Congress Legislature Party (CLP), Dr Mukul Sangma for his criticism against the present MDA Government, Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong said that the people of the state have not forgotten how Dr Mukul Sangma had mishandled the situation during the MBoSE issue when he was the Home Minister.

"It is still fresh in the minds of the people how nine innocent precious were killed due to the indiscriminate police firing at Tura and Williamnagar during the MBOSE issue. He (Dr Mukul) was even drop from the Cabinet at the point of time. I don't think it is right for the former Chief Minister to question the MDA Government," Tynsong told reporters on Monday.

He said that the people of the state are appreciating over the way the State Government has handle the present situation. "One may recall that even during the 'Them Metor' issue last year we have ensured that there was maximum restrain from the police. The injury of police personnel were more compared to the general public during the 'Them Metor' issue," Deputy Chief Minister said.

Earlier on Sunday, the Meghalaya Congress has stated the NPP led MDA Government should seek a fresh mandate as they have betrayed the people by misrepresenting and misinterpreting the stand of the people on the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019.

"They have misrepresented and misinterpret the stand of the people against this legislation. This is the biggest betrayal to the people. In the midst of this, the situation has further agrravated protest and we are seeing complete lack of governance. It is time for the Government led by Conrad K Sangma to leave the chair and go for election and seek fresh mandate from the people," Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader, Dr Mukul Sangma had stated. According to him, the statement made by Chief Minister in support of the CAA has further aggravated the whole situation

"It is the State Government who is responsible to create this kind of unprecedented situation. Not only this, the Government has mishandled the situation. This can be witness by the incidents which are taking place in Shillong and Garo Hills," Dr Mukul said.

While refusing to accept the accusation of the Congress that the NPP has betrayed the people by supporting the CAA, he said that there is wrong interpretation of the statement of Agatha Sangma in the floor of the Parliament on the CAA. "People had listened only to the first few lines of Agatha speech. If the people has gone through her full speech they will realise that she had question the CAA and also wanted the whole North Eastern region should be exempted from this Act. It is totally misleading to say that the NPP has taken a 'u' turn by the supporting the CAA," Tynsong said.

Respecting the sentiments of the people of the State, he said that the whole MDA Government had decided to come up with an official resolution during the special session on December 19 to demand from the Centre for implementation of ILP in the State.

"We will be officially meeting the NGOs, civil societies and the Synjuk Ki Rangbah to deliberate on the official resolution of the Government demanding ILP in the State," he said.
