Meghalaya: 67.22% voter turnout till 8.30 pm; 82% in Selsella Assembly constituency

The percentage of voters' turn out for the Shillong and Tura Parliamentary seats stand at 67.22 percent till 8.30 pm and the percentage is likely to go up since details from the far flung polling stations is still awaited.

At the same time, the percentage of voters' turn out in the bye-election for the Selsella Assembly constituency is 82 percent with figures from some polling stations yet to be collected.

"The percentage is expected to go up once the information of voters' turn out from the far flung areas start to come in," Meghalaya Chief Electoral Officer, F.R. Kharkongor said told media persons after polling to the two parliamentary seats concluded peacefully today.

According to the CEO, the figure which is available at present is from the 2500 polling stations adding that they are still awaiting the details from around 640 polling stations which are in the remote areas.

"We are not able to get the details from around 640 polling stations due to connectivity problem and remoteness of the areas," the CEO said.

Kharkongor informed that Shillong parliamentary seat registered 63.56 percent while Tura Lok Sabha seat clocked a healthy 75.60 percent.

In 2014, the voters' turnout in the state was around 68 per cent. He also said that there were few cases of malfunctioning of VVPATs. He said, the error in ballot units and central units was 0.51 per cent while in VVPATs it was 1.86 per cent.

Furthermore, he informed that out of the 19.14 lakh voters, 12. 81 lakh voters exercised their franchised.

As per the constituency-wise break-up of the electorates, there are 11, 97, 806 voters for the Shillong Parliamentary seat and 7, 16, 989 eligible voters in Tura Lok Sabha seat.
