Coronavirus: Total curfew in Manipur, health staff in full alert

Manipur remained cut off from the rest of the world today as people remained indoors as part of the Janata Curfew called by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Social and religious gatherings were also stopped by police to control outbreak of the deadly Corona virus. All inter state passenger services were also cancelled until further order. Most temples have announced stopping of regular conglomerations.

There was total shutdown and all streets were completely deserted. Except some persons on foot most lanes were empty. All oil depots, shops were closed down.

All women's markets had been closed down for five days from Saturday. The main referral hospital JNIMS stopped all normal operations from Saturday. Doctors, nurses have been assigned at various hospitals and leave was not provided.

Chief Minister N Biren had toured the state on Saturday and inspected the preparations in hospitals. Hospital staff pointed out the shortage of ventilator, ICU, water, safety equipments.

Chief Minister assured to look into the matter. Entry of all visitors into the Manipur Secretariat including all Blocks, Wings and Buildings both in the South and North Block as well as Chief Minister's Secretariat have been barred.

Governor of Manipur, Dr. Najma Heptulla had reiterated that the people should observe the "Janata Curfew" by remaining indoor as a part of our collective effort to combat the pandemic.

The Governor has also felt very unhappy at the unfortunate incident in which many people got infected and some even lost their lives. Chief Minister has asked all to unitedly fight against the outbreak.

He urged people of the State to give their full support and cooperation to fight pandemic coronavirus (COVID-19).

N. Biren Singh said that the State government has already taken precautionary measures to fight COVID-19 since January 18, 2020.

He expressed his happiness that people have extended their support to the government to fight the virus. Chief Minister stated that the next 2-3 weeks will be very crucial for all of us and we must support and help each other to fight the deadly disease.
