The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and People's Democratic Party (PDF) leader, Pynshngain N Syiem on Friday took a dig at Congress legislator from Mawsynram, HM Shangpliang for pushing the demand to upgrade Mawsynram into a Civil Sub Division, right after the dramatic resignation of Ranikor MLA, MM Danggo.

"Why do they follow the copy-paste approach? Why now? If he (Shanpliang) really wants to do this right after Danggo's episode, then I suggest the Mawsynram MLA should also resign from the post to get a civil sub division," Syiem, who is also the former Mawsynram legislator, told media persons here on Friday.

Syiem, who lost to Shangpliang in the Assembly polls from the constituency recently, launched a scathing attack on the Congress legislator for demanding the up-gradation of Mawsynram to a civil sub-division right after former Ranikor MLA, MM Danggo made the same demand for his constituency and the price he paid, to ensure that his demand sees the light of the day, was his resignation as member of the House.

Recently, an organisation from Mawsynram met Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong to impress on the need to upgrade the Mawsynram Community and Rural Development Block into a Civil Sub Division.

Local MLA, H.M Shangpliang had on Thursday told reporters that it was decided in the meeting of the Mawsynram Civil Sub-Division Demand Committee (MCSDDC) to draft a memorandum on the matter after a threadbare discussion on the modalities to move ahead in placing the demand before the state government.

"The demand made by Shangpliang's committee was made only after Danggo's demand for Ranikor Civil Sub Division materialized following his resignation. So which means, if he (Shangpliang) really want to see it through, he too has to step down," said the PDF leader.

Meanwhile, the Congress legislator, HM Shangpliang, when asked whether he would follow in Danggo;s footsteps, said the demand for a civil sub-division is not for any political gain but for the welfare and benefit of the people of the constituency.

It may be mentioned that right after the decision to award Ranikor Civil Sub Division, the NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Government (MDA) is constantly caught in a peculiar and tight situation with various delegations approaching the government with the same request.
