Meghalaya | Photo of pregnant woman with entrails out in Tura circulated on social media

Adding to the series of photo and video circulation on social media recently, a horrendous photo of a woman, whose pregnancy went wrong, suspected to be at the Maternity and Child Hospital in Tura in West Garo Hills, has gone viral after someone took a photograph of her and posted it on social media.

The photo, which shows the intestines of the woman, which had come out while she tried to give birth, is too gory to be shown though for some people, the same became an object of getting 'likes', reactions and comments on social media, leading to the question by most as to how far is enough.

"Instead of feeling sorry for the woman who had a huge medical problem, some unscrupulous people went ahead and used her for their 15 minutes of fame. This is absolutely wrong and the people behind the episode need to be booked. This is inhuman to say the least," said social activist Jaynie N Sangma from Tura.

The matter was also informed to the deputy commissioner of WGH, Ram Singh, who promised to look into the matter with immediate effect.

"This is sad and the circulation of such photos is objectionable and insensitive," said the DC.

The matter is now likely to be taken up with the Cyber Cell to find out the culprits behind the circulation of such images.

Meanwhile, the CSWO has come down heavily on the insensitive circulation of photos of the woman and demanded an immediate inquiry.

"We strongly condemn the spreading of the photograph of the woman from a maternity ward hospital on social media. We demand an inquiry into the matter and action against those persons circulating these photos," said CSWO president, Agnes Kharshiing.
