Meghalaya: BJP leader Manas Chaudhuri quits party; likely to contest polls on Congress’s ticket

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) yet again suffered a jolt after party leader and former legislator Manas Chaudhuri decided to call it quits after being denied party ticket to contest the ensuing polls from South Shillong.
"I was assured tickets since June last year. They have promised the party ticket at least three times. But finally they awarded the party ticket to Sanbor Shullai," Chaudhuri told media persons in Shillong on Monday.
Addressing media persons in Shillong here on Monday, the former BJP leader said that he has tendered his resignation to the state party chief Shibun Lyngdoh on Monday.
Interestingly, his decision to leave the party came just hours after Congress leader Vincent Pala informed that Chaudhuri has been offered to contest the ensuing assembly polls from South Shillong, on a party ticket.
Earlier, MPCC working president and Lok Sabha MP Vincent Pala told TNT-The Northeast Today that the party has approached Manas to contest from the party ticket. "We are still waiting for a confirmation from his side. I am sure by today evening everything would be clear," Pala added.
When asked whether he has taken a call on the Congress's offer, Chaudhuri said that he is yet to take a decision on the matter adding that his answer will be made known by tomorrow.
It may be reminded that in less than a week, the BJP loses out on many BJP leaders due to denial of party tickets.
On Sunday, Mahila Morcha vice president, Moromi K Marak tendered her resignation after being denied party ticket and decided to contest the polls from Dalu independently.
On the same day, the BJP received a huge setback in its attempt to win the Williamnagar seat after aspiring candidate, Jan N Arengh along with a huge number of his supporters quit the party after Arengh was denied a party ticket for the Williamnagar constituency.
On february 2, just hours after the BJP announced the first list of 45 candidates, the party lost one of its key members, Violet Lyngdoh, who is also the president of the Mahila Morcha of the BJP Meghalaya unit (East Jaintia Hills unit).
Lyngdoh, who is also the sister of BJP Meghalaya unit president Shibun Lyngdoh, left the party and joined the NPP because she was denied party ticket from Khliehriat constituency.
