Meet Lalringthara, the 73-year-old fifth grader from Mizoram

NEW HRUAIKAWN, April 4, 2018: New Hruaikawn Middle School at New Hruaikawn located under Khawbung block of Champhai District in Mizoram is proud to have a new student this new session. The passion and love of for education has bought Mr. Lalrinthara (73 yrs) into their school as a new student admitted into class V.

Mr.Lalrinthara was born in 1945 at Khuangleng village. His father passed away when he was barely two years of age. Having no other siblings, his mother took care of him and he was able to attend school till class 2.
After which, his mother re-married and he was under the care of a distant-relative couple, who were non-Christians and had not much value for education.
He had to help work in the fields to help make ends meet.

Mr Lalrinthara is a literate person, very well capable of reading and writing in the Mizo Language. He is at present working as the Church Chowkidar at New Hruaikawn. He has the passion for reading and writing, specially those of Christian literature and sermons.

Speaking to him over the phone, he conveyed, "I have no problem in reading or writing in the Mizo Language. However, my desire for education has been flamed by my passion to learn the English language. Now a days, every literature has some English words infused in them, which often confuses me, so I decided to go back to school to improve my knowledge specially in the English language."

According to Mr. Vanlalkima, the Headmaster (in-charge) at New Hruaikawn Middle School, "Pu Lalrinthara is an inspiration and a challenge to both the students and teachers alike. An admirable man who passion for learning deserves all the support which can be provided."

Mr.Lalrinthara will be sitting in the classroom with the other children. He will soon be provided with school uniforms too.
