Make Shillong your stage with theatre performer Raja Ghosh in ‘Body Mind Voice’ acting workshop

SHILLONG, Aug 5, 2017: Having earned quite a name for himself in the world of theatre in Mumbai, Shillong's heartthrob Raja Kumar Ghosh is now shifting his gaze towards his hometown with an aim to develop the right sets of skills and to equip the aspiring performers with a mature level of physical, vocal, mental and emotional skills which lay a firm foundation for their engagements with film, television and theatre.

A LITTLE ABOUT GHOSH

Ghosh, born and brought up in Shillong is currently the Head Faculty of the Barry John Acting Studio, Nepal. He started his acting career with renowned film maker from Shillong, Pradip Kurbah in 2011.

After winning Mr. North East in the year 2012, Ghosh immediately moved to Mumbai to train under renowned theatre Director Barry John. Post training he found work in theatre and also performed at the Prithvi Theatre for India's most reputed theatre group — IPTA (Indian Peoples Theatre Association). After several theatre performances, he finally made his television debut in 2014 for a Rajasthani Televison show as the leading role. He has also been part of the Barry John acting faculty in Mumbai and has been associated with Barry for more than 5 years now.

When Barry John took the initiative of starting his first international venture in Nepal, Ghosh claimed that he was the first one to be approached to head the school. He is now stationed in Kathmandu as the Head Faculty where he teaches acting and direct plays.

ABOUT BARRY JOHN

According to Ghosh, Barry John is the maestro who started the Barry John Acting Studio in Mumbai, Delhi and now in Nepal. Born and educated in the U.K, Barry John has lived and worked in India since 1968 and is now an Indian citizen.

He was the Founder-Director of Theatre Action Group (TAG) from 1973 to 1999. It was Delhi's most acclaimed company because of the range and high quality of its productions, and for being instrumental in the success of many of its members: Siddharth Basu, Mira Nair, Lillette Dubey, Divya Seth, Pamela Rooks, Shah Rukh Khan and Manoj Bajpayee, most notably.

He was on the faculty of the National School of Drama (1977-80) teaching and directing young actors such as Anupam Kher, Pankaj Kapoor, Anu Kapoor, Surekha Sikri and Manohar Singh. He was also Founder-Director of the NSD's Theatre in Education Company from 1989-1992.

Barry Himself has acted in numerous plays,TV serials and films. He has a national award from the Sangeet Natak Akademi, and awards from the Sahitya Kala Parishad and the Delhi Natya Sangh.

MAKING SHILLONG A STAGE WITH 'BODY MIND VOICE' – AN ACTING WORKSHOP

This Acting Workshop which was initiated by Ghosh will commence on the August 28 till September 1 from 10 am -2 pm. It was learnt that this is the first time that the Barry John Acting Studio is conducting an Acting Workshop in the North East.

According to Ghosh, the Barry John system of training incorporates the most up-to-date and comprehensive techniques and methodologies that have proved to be inspiring and empowering. "Devoid of academic theory and jargon, the workshop is a progressive series of exercises and projects that are experiential," the young theatre performer said adding that the Workshop is carefully designed to equip students with a mature level of physical, vocal, mental and emotional skills which lay a firm foundation for their engagements with film, television and theatre.
